Death of Advertising Influencer and Retired Troy University Professor, Dr. Joseph Fielding

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Dr. Joseph Fielding. Dr. Fielding, a retired professor from Troy University and influencer in the advertising industry, died Saturday, July 6th at his home in Dothan, AL.

Dr. Fielding started his career serving in the Navy before landing on Madison Avenue in New York in the 1940’s. Working for large companies such as General Foods and J. Walter Thompson, he loved the industry and was proud of the work he produced.  In his later years, he retired to Dothan, AL where he taught at Troy University’s Dothan campus as a Marketing & Advertising Professor. His students learned life lessons that could not be taught from a textbook but rather from his experiences as an ad man.

Dr. Fielding served on the Board of Directors for the American Advertising Federation – Dothan Chapter for a number of years before rolling onto the Advisory Board. It was important to him to give back to his community even after he retired for his second time from Troy University. He was passionate about the advertising industry, his students, his family and his friends. He always made time for people and enjoyed a good debate.

“The advertising industry has lost a visionary and an advertising genius. Every time I sat down with Dr. Fielding, I knew that I was going to learn something new and take away knowledge that I would use in my own agency everyday” says Mike Riddle, Partner – PushCrankPress.

“No words can adequately express the loss and sadness that our industry and community feels today. We are all so grateful to have known and served alongside Dr. Fielding” says Amy Riddle, Executive Committee – AAF District 7.

PushCrankPress and AAF Dothan will honor his memory by establishing the “Dr. Joseph Fielding Memorial Scholarship” and will continue the work in the industry that he loved so much.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Fielding family
